“Beyond Yellowstone Season 5 Finale: What’s Next in the Expanding Dutton Universe”

When you think of Kevin Costner, images of rugged landscapes, dramatic standoffs, and his role as the tough-as-nails John Dutton in Yellowstone probably come to mind. Known for his iconic roles in Bull Durham and Field of Dreams, as well as his Oscar-winning directorial work on Dances with Wolves, Costner has become a staple in American cinema. But despite his superstar status, there’s one thing that sets him apart from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood—his love for a classic American dessert.

It may not surprise you that Costner, with his all-American persona, is a fan of apple pie. What might surprise you, however, is that he prefers it store-bought.Yellowstone's Chef 'Gator' Reveals Kevin Costner's Favorite On-Set Dessert

A Simple, No-Fuss Eater
According to Gabriel “Gator” Guilbeau, the on-set chef for Yellowstone, Kevin Costner isn’t one for complicated meals or fancy dining. In fact, Guilbeau reveals that before he met Costner, the actor’s diet mostly consisted of canned chili and hot dogs—definitely not what you’d expect from a Hollywood A-lister. But one thing Costner always asked for was apple pie.

When asked about his preferences, Costner admitted that he’s not too picky when it comes to desserts—he simply enjoys a good slice of apple pie, and more specifically, he enjoys it from trusted, no-frills brands. Costner isn’t into gourmet desserts, and when it comes to apple pie, it’s all about Sara Lee and Marie Callender’s for him.The Guns of 1923: A Yellowstone Origin Story | Hook & Barrel Magazine

No Fancy Additions
What’s even more surprising is that Costner doesn’t bother with pie à la mode. While many of us can’t imagine apple pie without a scoop of ice cream, Costner prefers to skip the ice cream entirely, though he does enjoy some with his coffee. “Anything too fancy just doesn’t suit my taste,” Costner admits.

The actor’s humble preference for store-bought apple pie feels refreshingly grounded for someone who’s spent decades in the spotlight. Rather than seeking out artisanal or homemade pies, he’s content with the comfort of the familiar, a classic dessert that doesn’t require much fuss—just as simple and straightforward as his iconic roles.Inside Kevin Costner's Life Throughout The Years

How to Make the Perfect Homemade Apple Pie
If you’re looking to step up your own apple pie game and bring a homemade touch to the table, take some inspiration from Costner’s favorite dessert and aim for a simple yet perfect pie. For the best results, try using tart apples like Granny Smith or Braeburn, which hold their shape during baking and provide a delightful balance to the sweetness.

Macerate the apples with sugar and syrup to get the right texture, and if you’re feeling adventurous, try dicing the apples as Gordon Ramsay does for a more refined finish. Whether store-bought or homemade, apple pie is an all-time classic dessert—just like Costner himself.
