Behind Every Man in Uniform: Casting the Team
Luke Grimes finally has a co-star in Y: Marshals. The upcoming CBS drama series serves as a sequel spinoff to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone.
Per Deadline, Logan Marshall-Green has been cast to co-lead Y: Marshals as Pete Calvin, a friend from Kayce’s time in the military. The actor is best known for his work in the horror movies Devil (2010) and The Invitation (2015) as well as Leigh Whannell’s Upgrade (2018) and Ridley Scott’s Prometheus (2012). He also played the first Shocker in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and will next appear in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated The Odyssey, which is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2026. Marshall-Green also shares a striking resemblance to fellow Spider-Man actor Tom Hardy, with the two often being mistaken for one another by fans.
Ordered to series in May 2025 by CBS, Y: Marshals will see Grimes reprise his Yellowstone role as Kayce Dutton, as he joins an “elite unit of U.S. Marshals.” Per the official logline, the spinoff will see Kayce “combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
At the time of writing, Grimes remains the only Yellowstone alum confirmed for Y: Marshals, although the actor has teased that fans could expect to see some more “familiar faces” on the spinoff, as well as “a lot of new faces too.” Given that Yellowstone ended with Kayce Dutton still living happily with his wife, Monica, and son, Tate Dutton, it seems extremely likely that Kelsey Asbille and Brecken Merrill will be brought back in their respective roles for the new series.
More Yellowstone Spinoffs Are on the Way
Y: Marshals isn’t the only Yellowstone spinoff that fans have to look forward to over the coming couple of years. Another sequel spinoff is in development for Paramount+ that will follow Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler as they start a new ranch away from the multi-generational one that was the focal point of Yellowstone. Finn Little will also be part of this offshoot, reprising his role as Carter, who made his first appearance on Yellowstone during the fourth season. Little’s inclusion in the spinoff, which is expected to carry Yellowstone in its title, isn’t entirely surprising considering that Beth and Rip serve as the kid’s legal guardians.
The only other spinoff further along than Y: Marshals and the untitled Beth & Rip series is The Madison, which was initially put into development as a direct sequel to Yellowstone before evolving into its own standalone series about a wealthy matriarch who moves her family from New York City to Montana in the wake of her husband and brother-in-law’s tragic deaths in a plane crash. The series will be led by Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox, Beau Garrett, and Amiah Miller, among others.
