Kevin Costner Honoured with BAMBI Award for International Acting Excellence
Kevin Costner, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated figures, has left an enduring mark on the film industry through his exceptional work as an actor, director, and producer. With a career defined by passion, versatility, and storytelling excellence, he continues to captivate global audiences both on screen and behind the camera.
His breakthrough as a filmmaker came with the 1990 epic Dances with Wolves, which he directed and produced. The film became the highest-grossing movie worldwide that year and won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. This milestone established Costner as one of Hollywood’s most visionary and sought-after talents. Two years later, he starred opposite Whitney Houston in the iconic romantic thriller The Bodyguard (1992), which became a global phenomenon—thanks in part to its unforgettable soundtrack, including the hit “I Will Always Love You.”
This year, Kevin Costner receives the BAMBI Award in the “Actor International” category for his outstanding contributions to cinema, his visionary creativity, and his enduring presence in international film and television.
“Kevin Costner is a Hollywood icon—a name synonymous with great cinema. Whether in thrillers, political dramas, or romances, he moves effortlessly between genres, always with his unmistakable charisma. Costner shines brightest when bringing stories close to his heart to life—driven by passion, conviction, and an unshakable belief in the power of storytelling. As a filmmaker, he embodies classic Hollywood. As an actor, he personifies the American Dream—and lives it.”
A Passion for Storytelling, Music, and Nature
After graduating from California State University, Costner first entered the corporate world, working in marketing. But his dream of acting never faded. He pursued acting classes at night, which led to early breakout roles in films like Silverado (1985), No Way Out (1987), and two beloved baseball classics—Bull Durham (1988) and Field of Dreams(1989).
In recent years, Costner has continued to shape modern storytelling through his leading role in Yellowstone, a contemporary western series now in its fifth season and one of the most successful shows on television. In 2024, he embarks on his most ambitious cinematic venture to date: Horizon, a sweeping four-part epic saga set in the American West.
Outside of film, Costner is a passionate musician. Since 2007, he has led the country-rock band Kevin Costner & Modern West, touring internationally and releasing multiple albums. He is also a dedicated environmentalist. Following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, his company provided 32 oil-water separation machines—technology he helped develop and championed for years.
