In a memorable moment, Chicago Fire star Taylor Kinney shared a laugh about meeting The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon during Chicago’s annual polar plunge. The two crossed paths while braving the icy waters of Lake Michigan, all in the name of charity for the Special Olympics.
Kinney recalled their first meeting, saying, “I’ve actually met you before, but very briefly. Every year, I think I’ve done it four times, we do a polar plunge… And I remember you were there.” What made this moment unforgettable, according to Kinney, was Fallon’s bold decision to jump into the freezing lake wearing a full suit and tie.
“I remember you had a suit on,” Kinney laughed. “You had just a full suit, and I go, ‘How’s he gonna get out? That’s got to be like triple-times as cold.’”
True to his adventurous spirit, Fallon had jumped into the freezing waters in his full attire, looking freezing but still managing to stay committed to the fun. Fallon shared a throwback photo from the event, showing himself drenched, his hair frozen in spiky clumps. “My hair was frozen,” Fallon laughed. “It was spiky!”
The two also reminisced about their time in Chicago, where Kinney regularly interacts with firefighters. Fallon, remembering his time living near a New York City fire station during his SNL years, joked about how firefighters always kept him honest.
Kinney responded that while real firefighters do watch the show, the feedback is mostly positive. He recalled one instance where a firefighter humorously pointed out the unrealistic logistics of a particular stunt on the show. “You’ve got this hose, you slid down this hose. How the hell are you gonna get back up?” Kinney laughed and assured the firefighter, “There’s a little creative license.”
A moment of fun, charity, and camaraderie – and a reminder of the hilarious moments that happen when stars like Fallon and Kinney get together
